how do i get named when somebody asks an ai?
Being the answer, not just a result.
When somebody asks an assistant who to use, it names two or three businesses. Everyone else in the trade is not in the conversation: not ranked lower, not there at all. This is the work of being one of the names.
What actually changed
A search engine returned ten links and let the reader choose. An assistant returns an answer and chooses for them. The list did not get shorter; it was replaced by a sentence, and a sentence has room for two or three names.
This is why ranking and being answered have come apart. A business can sit at position four for its own category and never be named once, because nothing on the page was written in a shape an assistant could lift.
AEO: being liftable
An assistant quotes what it can extract cleanly and attribute confidently. That means pages answering one question each, in prose, near the top, without the answer having to be assembled out of three paragraphs and a table.
The test we use is whether an answer survives being quoted out of context. If a sentence only makes sense after the two above it, it will not be lifted, and if it is lifted anyway, it will be lifted wrong.
GEO: being agreed about
A model does not read your site and stop. It assembles an answer out of everywhere you appear, and if those places disagree about what you do or where you do it, the safest thing it can say about you is nothing.
So the work is consistency before cleverness: one account of the business, the same name and number and service area wherever it is stated, and structure that says what you do in a form that cannot be misread.
LLMEO is the same job
It is sold as a third acronym. It is the same two pieces of work (be liftable, be agreed about) described from the model's side rather than the buyer's. We mention it because you will be quoted it, not because it is a separate thing to buy.
What actually moves it
Being indexed and snippet-eligible. Being in Bing's index, which backs ChatGPT Search, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia. Leaving the retrieval crawlers open. Answering real questions in readable prose, one question per page.
Every one of those is engineering, built into the structure of the site rather than added afterwards, which is why it holds as the models change.
